Hi, my name is
Kohmei Kadoya.
I seamlessly integrate robotics and software.
I'm a software engineer with a focus on user experience and the seamless design and integration of robotic systems into applications.
About Me
Hello! I'm Kohmei, a robotics engineer based in Worcester, MA.
I enjoy making robots more delightful to interact with. Whether that is by creating more redundant hardware or making powerful software that give instant and continuous feedback to the user, I strive to make complex robotics accessible to everyone.
I'm a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where I am pursuing a bachelor's and a master's in Robotics Engineering.
Here are a few technologies I’ve been working with recently:
- Java
- HTML & (S)CSS
- React
- MATLAB
- C/C++
- Python

Some Things I’ve Built
Featured Project
Power Line Bird Deterrent Robot
An automated system to discourage birds from congregating on Eversource's power lines. The drive train carries light and sound-based deterrents and is able to operate for multiple days using a solar-powered docking station. A web UI allows technicians to manage the fleet from anywhere.
- 3D Printing
- ROS
- Automated Lipo Charging
- React
Featured Project
BWH Hospital Application
A JavaFX application for use by Brigham and Women's Hospital patients, employees, and administrators created for WPI's Software Engineering (CS3733) class. I used Agile Scrum methodology to lead an 11 person team to take this project from requirements gathering to user testing.
- JavaFX
- Material Design
- Apache Derby (SQL)
- Agile Scrum
- Adobe XD
Featured Project
ASES Global Internship Portal
A Handshake-like internship search website for Stanford's Global Entrepreneurship Society. Overhauls the application process for students applying to internships through the club and acts as a simple resume management system for employers.
- Firebase
- React
- SCSS
- Abode XD
Featured Project
Airport Obstacle Avoidance Robot
People detection and navigation for robots in crowded indoor environments. A deep learning model trained on 2d lidar data allows the robot to perform safe and efficient point-to-point navigation.
- Turtlebot
- Velodyne VLP16 Lidar
- Deep Learning
- A* and DWA
- Data Labeling
Featured Project
Lyft Motion Prediction Challenge
A research paper based on Lyft's Motion Prediction Kaggle Competition. Various deep learning models are explored to computationally efficiently train on the largest publicly available motion prediction dataset.
- Autonomous Vehicles
- Machine Learning
- Lyft L5 kit
- Kaggle
- CNN
- LSTM
- Enc-Dec
- Ensemble Learning
Featured Project
6-DOF Arm Control Method
An intuitive way to control a 6 degree-of-freedom robotic manipulator using an HTC Vive VR controller. The arm mimics the motion of your hand in real-time and allows anyone to control a complex arm easily.
- PyCharm
- Forwards/Inverse Kinematics
- SteamVR SDK
Featured Project
Combat Robotics
Designing and manufacturing custom robots that fight to incapacitate each other that utilize 3D printing, laser cutting, 3-axis milling, and other advanced manufacturing techniques. Competed in various competitions in the area including, the Norwalk Havoc Robotics League.
- Fusion 360 (CAD/CAM)
- Design for manufacturing
- Iterative Design
- Hass CNC mill and lathe
Other Noteworthy Projects
view the archiveThe YMCA of the Rockies Renewable Energy Plan
A renewable energy feasibility study that considered guest perceptions, staff opinion, and the renewable energy generation potential of YMCA at Estes Park, CO. Based on the results of surveys, interviews, and on-site measurements, we ruled out wind and micro-hydro generation. We ranked campus buildings by solar efficiency and recommended three plans to implement solar at varying scales.
Dynamics Modeling of a Quadruped Robot
Simulation of a dog-like robot in Mathlab based on custom CAD and dynamics equations. Considered different gaits, and developed control code to make the robot follow a trajectory in a 3D simulation.
VexU Robotics Team
WPI's VexU Robotics Competition Team. Managed the $27000+ annual budget as the treasurer. Lead a team to design, build, and program the 15-inch robot, which was 3D printed and CNCed, and used odometry and computer vision.
Interactive Song Creation App
A simple React JS app to automatically generate a song based on melody played by the user. The tempo of the song is detected and a drum track and backing chords are generated and played in real time.
CAD Model of Grasshopper Steam Engine
A fully functional steam-powered engine that is modeling in cad using PTC Creo. With over 200 parts and a full interference, kinematic, and engine cycle analysis, this is the most complete and robust CAD model I have built so far.
Automated Color-based Ball Sorting with 3DOF Arm
A 3D printed 3DOF arm with a webcam that automatically sorted balls based on their color. With a state machine for fully automated calibration and error-recovery, this system will keep sorting balls in any environment.
